Kid Cudi is one of those artists that I have praised at some points of his career and criticized at others. I was instantly drawn to his unique style after his first two mixtapes, Dat Kid From Cleveland and A Kid Named Cudi and my liking for him only grew when he dropped his debut album, Man on the Moon. He had a melodic flow that was new to the genre and his “outcast” message was fresh and relevant but after this project, I found myself wondering where Cudi was going with his sound. On his next two releases, Man on the Moon II and WZRD (with Dot da Genius), he experimented with a more rock-ish sound and left the clever rapping and catchy hooks behind.
With this new album, which is apparently almost all produced by Cudi himself, I think Cudder will mesh his new sound with the old vibe that everyone loved to form a solid new project. Listen and download King Wizard down below.
